How can we celebrate Black History Month 2021 in North Somerset? Maybe you have plans in progress? Ideas? Join us for an open discussion.

About this event

Black History Month is just around the corner, running from 1st to 31st October and we want to promote and celebrate this year’s theme: ‘Proud To Be’.

We believe it’s time for all of us in North Somerset to join with other regions across the UK that already mark Black History Month with positive, engaging, entertaining and educational community activities and events every year.

This Year: In order to raise awareness this year, we are collating information on any Black History Month activities taking place in North Somerset and promoting these on a new, dedicated website that will be launching soon:

(We’re very grateful to the Space Bar and the Weston College Students that are working on this with us.)

In addition, during October, we want to encourage as many people as possible to support Black History Month and use the month to explore black culture by reading a related book, watching a film, attending a performance or listening to music in order to increase knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the contribution Black people have made – and continue to make – to the UK and around the world.

Next Year: However, this isn’t just about engaging during Black History Month this October, as we are also aiming to organise complementary events that will continue afterwards to continue the process of education and build strong foundations for next year’s Black History Month in October, 2022.
