This is the second in our new monthly column here on behalf of the Weston Business Improvement District (BID) and last month you heard from our Chair, Paul Batts of Outdoors and Active.
This month, as both the BID and Town Centre Manager, I wanted to give you a flavour of some of the things happening in the BID area, that includes the town centre and a part of the seafront.
It’s certainly been a busy summer here in Weston despite the situation with coronavirus. When the weather has been fine, we have seen flocks of people on the seafront and in and around the town centre.
When the weather has been less kind, the shops in the Sovereign Centre and the traders around the town on the whole are reporting a good season and our footfall figures are looking favourable.
With the road improvement works by North Somerset Council now underway in the town centre, things are starting to take shape to make traffic flow and access from the train station more convenient for both residents and visitors.
We have had so many events cancelled and postponed over the last 18 months, but I’m pleased to report that things are starting to open up more with the return of eat:Weston on September 25 in the Italian Gardens. The Grand Pier is also hosting The Wurzels on September 17, plus other events and activities in Grove Park that the BID team is working alongside the town council to organise and deliver as safely as we all can.
We are working with the businesses in the BID area from this month to help support and promote them further, and you can find out more about what’s on in the area, or get some help with marketing your business if you’re in the BID area, by visiting Weston BID on Facebook.
Our latest newsletter is online for all to read, including the progress we are making towards a renewal of the BID and all that it will bring to Weston over the next five years when the businesses come to vote later this year.
Our recent survey and consultation to over 450 businesses within the BID area confirmed that more than 90 per cent supported our vision of ‘Working together to make Weston a great place to live, work and visit’.
Until next month, enjoy our town and stay safe!
